Irvine-based biotechnology company TAE Life Sciences has announced the finalization of a contract manufacturing agreement with Foxsemicon Integrated Technology Inc. (FITI), a manufacturing firm situated in Taiwan. This significant partnership is aimed at supporting the production of TAE Life Sciences' targeted radiation treatment system, a compact device designed to address various forms of cancer. The agreement marks a strategic step for the Irvine company as it moves to scale its operations and bring its specialized medical technology to wider use.
Under the terms established in the manufacturing agreement, specific roles have been delineated for each party. FITI will undertake the responsibility for manufacturing and testing a range of essential components that make up the complex radiation treatment system. Following this initial production phase, TAE Life Sciences will then perform the critical tasks of final system assembly, comprehensive integration of all manufactured parts, and the ultimate installation of the complete treatment systems. This collaborative approach leverages specialized expertise from both companies to streamline the production process for advanced cancer therapies.
Rob Hill, the chief executive of TAE Life Sciences, highlighted the strategic importance of this new partnership. In a statement released by the company, Hill affirmed that the collaboration with FITI will substantially strengthen the company’s existing manufacturing supply chain. He further noted that the timing is crucial for the company’s expansion, stating that "scalability is going to be a key factor in our success." Hill’s remarks emphasize the company's focus on expanding its capacity to meet future demand and ensure the broad availability of its treatment solutions.
TAE Life Sciences, an entity rooted in local innovation, was originally established in 2017. It emerged as a distinct spin-off from TAE Technologies, a nuclear fusion company based in Foothill Ranch. Since its founding, TAE Life Sciences has dedicated its research and development efforts to creating novel approaches for cancer treatment. Its flagship product is the Alphabeam system, an innovative medical device that represents a significant advancement in oncology.
The Alphabeam system is described as a compact, accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy. This advanced form of radiation treatment is meticulously designed to target and treat cancerous cells with precision, operating at a cellular level. By focusing on specific cancer cells, the system aims to provide a more localized and effective treatment modality. The new manufacturing agreement with FITI is poised to play a crucial role in bringing the Alphabeam system from its development phase into broader production, making this specialized cancer treatment more accessible as the Irvine company grows.
