The University of California, Irvine continues to earn top positions in a range of national and global university rankings for its academic programs and overall value. These assessments, released in late September 2026, place UC Irvine prominently among public universities, highlighting its role as a leading institution in the region.

According to The Princeton Review’s latest rankings, UC Irvine is fourth overall among the Top 50 Best Value Colleges for public schools. This evaluation recognized UC Irvine as the highest-ranked member of the University of California system and the highest-ranked university in California on this particular list. The Princeton Review assesses institutions based on three primary factors: academic rating, financial aid availability, and college costs. Data from over 650 schools was reviewed for this annual project to determine its rankings. The company states its methodology aims to acknowledge colleges that help students afford to attend while providing an impactful college experience.

Chancellor Howard Gillman stated that the university takes “great pride” in its recognition as a leading institution. He noted that these latest rankings acknowledge UC Irvine's efforts to deliver both academic excellence and exceptional value to its students and their families.

Beyond the Princeton Review’s findings, UC Irvine also received significant placement in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027. In this international assessment, UC Irvine secured the 97th spot out of nearly 2,300 institutions worldwide, placing it within the top 100 globally. The Times Higher Education rankings evaluate universities across three core missions: research, teaching, and overall impact, serving as a guide for prospective students and faculty alike.

These recent announcements follow earlier rankings revealed by U.S. News & World Report. For the twelfth consecutive year, UC Irvine was named among the top 10 public universities in the nation. It placed eighth in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 list of Best Colleges, marking its highest public-university ranking in over a decade.

Founded in 1965, UC Irvine is a member of the Association of American Universities and is led by Chancellor Howard Gillman. The campus serves more than 36,000 students across 224 degree programs. Known for its academic achievements and premier research, the university has produced five Nobel laureates.

As one of Orange County’s largest employers, UC Irvine significantly contributes to the local economy. The university generates an estimated $7 billion annually for the local economy and $8 billion statewide. Its consistent high performance in national and international rankings further solidifies its standing as a critical educational and economic asset for Irvine and the wider region.
