Anaheim Ducks games will be available to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video service starting the 2026-2027 hockey season. This change comes as part of a multi-year agreement between the National Hockey League (NHL) and Prime Video, designed to expand access to regional broadcasts for hockey fans, including those in Irvine and the wider Orange County area.
Under the terms of the new deal, Prime members within the Ducks’ regional territory will gain access to all locally broadcast games. The arrangement also includes streaming of pre-game and post-game shows, along with other team programming, providing a comprehensive viewing experience for subscribers. The broader NHL agreement encompasses six teams, making their respective regional games available on the streaming platform for Amazon Prime members.
Despite the introduction of the new streaming option, the Anaheim club has confirmed its commitment to traditional broadcast methods for a portion of its schedule. The team will continue to air 65 games on over-the-air television. These broadcasts will be available on KCOP-13 or FOX 11, ensuring that a significant number of games remain accessible through conventional television channels for residents in the region.
Ducks President Aaron Teats highlighted the organization’s focus on fan accessibility. In a Sept. 2 statement, Teats affirmed that "It remains a significant organizational priority for all Ducks fans within our region to have the opportunity to watch Ducks games." This statement underscores the club’s objective to ensure broad access for its fanbase, which includes residents across Irvine and surrounding communities.
The Anaheim club, owned by Henry and Susan Samueli, is also pursuing further initiatives to enhance its broadcast capabilities. The organization plans to launch an exclusive multimedia broadcast network, with all games produced through a collaboration with NHL Productions. This development suggests a long-term strategy to control and customize its broadcast content, offering a dedicated platform for fans.
This move to establish a proprietary network follows a trend seen with other local sports franchises. The Los Angeles Angels baseball team, for instance, launched its own network, Angels Broadcast Television (ABTV), earlier this year. This comparison illustrates a broader shift in how sports organizations are approaching content distribution and direct engagement with their audience, moving towards more direct and exclusive channels.
For Irvine residents who are Prime members and follow the Ducks, this deal introduces a new method for watching games and accessing related content. The dual approach of streaming on Prime Video and continued over-the-air broadcasts offers varied options for accessing the team's season, from the 2026-2027 season onward. The planned exclusive network also points to potential future changes in how local sports content is delivered to fans.
