OC Animal Care in Tustin will host an adoption event on August 15 as part of “Clear the Shelters” month. The event will feature resource booths and a large number of kittens available for adoption.
According to a shelter volunteer, OC Animal Care has taken in more cats and kittens this summer than it has in recent years. The shelter, located in Tustin, also currently offers free Disney-themed pet items, including collars and clothing.
For the entire month of August, adoption fees are waived for all dogs weighing 25 pounds and over. Additionally, cat adoption fees are reduced by half on weekdays throughout August.
At the August 15 adoption event, fees will be half-price for cats, kittens, rabbits, and all other dogs whose fees are not already waived, including puppies and small dogs. Dog adoptions at this specific event will also receive a cargo liner while supplies last.
Several animals are currently available for adoption at the shelter. Lizzie, a cat with a “dilute tortoiseshell” coat, has been at OC Animal Care for about a month and a half after arriving as a stray. Silly Sam, another cat, has been at the shelter for a similar duration following time with a foster family; staff have limited specific details regarding his personality. Drowzee, a 5-year-old cat who also arrived as a stray, has been at the shelter for approximately a month and a half. All three cats are eligible for the August weekday half-price adoption promotion.
Among the dogs available are Beabadoobe and Ranger. Beabadoobe has been at the shelter for one week after arriving as a stray. Staff notes describe her as a sweet dog who can be shy but enjoys walks and receiving pets, also noting she is treat-motivated. Ranger, a shy but friendly dog who likes attention and exploring, has been at the shelter for about a month after also coming in as a stray. Both Beabadoobe and Ranger are part of the month-long promotion waiving adoption fees for dogs 25 pounds and up, and they are also available through the shelter’s foster-to-adopt program.
OC Animal Care, the county-run animal shelter, is open daily for adoption visits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During these hours, visitors can freely walk through the kennel areas to view available animals. To schedule an adoption visit for a specific pet, residents can call the main line at (714) 935-6848 and provide the animal’s ID number.
