Orange County Gas Prices Reach Highest Point Since Last Fall After 37 Consecutive Days of Increases

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Orange County rose to $6.265 on Thursday, marking its highest amount since September 29, 2023. This figure represents an increase of 1.9 cents from the previous day, according to data compiled by AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

This marks the 37th consecutive day of rising prices for motorists in Orange County. Over this period, the average price has climbed by a total of 69 cents, including a 2.2 cent increase recorded on Wednesday.

Compared to recent periods, the current average price in Orange County is 15 cents more than one week ago and 62.6 cents higher than one month ago. Looking further back, it stands $1.565 greater than the average price one year ago.

The average price in Orange County has increased by $1.629 since February 28, which marked the start of the joint U.S./Israel war on Iran. This event sent oil prices higher and drastically accelerated increases at the gas pump, according to the provided figures.

Neighboring Los Angeles County has seen similar trends. The average price there reached $6.282 on Thursday, its highest amount since October 2, 2023. This was an increase of 2.4 cents from the prior day.

Los Angeles County has also experienced 37 consecutive days of price increases, with the average rising by 64 cents over this period. On Wednesday, the average price in Los Angeles County increased by 1.7 cents.

When comparing historical data for Los Angeles County, the current average price is 14.7 cents more than one week ago, 60.1 cents higher than one month ago, and $1.555 greater than one year ago.

In Los Angeles County, the average price has increased by $1.588 since the joint U.S./Israel war on Iran began on February 28, contributing to higher oil prices and accelerated increases at the gas pump.

Nationally, the average price of self-serve regular gasoline rose eight-tenths of a cent to $4.482 on Thursday, following back-to-back decreases totaling four-tenths of a cent. The national average is 4.4 cents more than one week ago, 38.3 cents higher than one month ago, and $1.319 greater than one year ago.

The national average price has increased $1.50 since the attack on Iran. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from over 150,000 stations, noted that the national average price is currently at its highest amount this late in the calendar year.
